What is a French verb conjugation chart?+
A conjugation chart lays out the most useful French verbs and their forms in a single reference view. Instead of clicking through one verb at a time, you can scan patterns for -er, -ir and -re verbs and the key irregulars side by side.
Which French verbs should I learn first?+
Start with être, avoir, aller, faire, dire, pouvoir, vouloir, devoir, savoir and venir. They cover most everyday sentences and unlock the compound tenses (passé composé, plus-que-parfait, futur antérieur) because they act as auxiliary verbs.
How do you conjugate regular French verbs?+
Drop the infinitive ending (-er, -ir, -re), then add the ending that matches the pronoun and tense. Regular -er verbs (parler) follow one pattern, regular -ir verbs (finir) another, and regular -re verbs (vendre) a third. The chart above shows all three side by side.
Is this French conjugation chart printable?+
Yes — use your browser's print option (Ctrl/⌘ + P) to export the chart as a PDF or paper cheat sheet. The layout is optimised so each verb row stays on a single line.
What's the difference between passé composé and imparfait?+
Passé composé is for completed events ("I spoke to him yesterday"), while imparfait describes ongoing or repeated actions and background states ("I used to speak French"). You'll usually see both in the same paragraph.
